Brooke Henderson

You may know me as a journalist.
Soon, I’ll graduate from Berkeley Law.

I am a reporter who is fascinated by the intersection of emerging companies, digital privacy and race. I believe my skills as both a journalist and an attorney will empower me to make an even bigger, more equitable impact. While I focus on my studies, I will continue to freelance and explore legal journalism.

In 2020, I graduated from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism (CUNY) where I studied investigation as an Ida B. Wells Scholar. After completing my master’s program, I helped write obituaries for healthcare professionals who died fighting COVID-19. In my most recent role as a Dow Jones News Fund intern at the Wall Street Journal, I covered everything from private equity to cybersecurity. Assisting with coverage of companies’ cybersecurity challenges and trends in venture capital affirmed my interest in startup and intellectual property law.  I plan to both write and practice, working closely with clients while also writing accessible, accurate articles for new entrepreneurs.

I relish the opportunity to show other young journalists how to center their passions too. Every Tuesday, I schedule time to chat with students interested in law and journalism. I also serve as an alumni advisor for the University of Florida’s College of Journalism diversity initiatives. In high school, I created a literacy program centering diverse children’s literature called Pass That Book. The initiative now lives on at the University of Florida, where I advise students leading the program.

I have a special love for good arepas, beaches, and Publix chicken tender subs.
